Have you ever had a big goal or dream, made a 37-step color coded plan, with highlighters and sticky notes, color-coded your calendar, and bought a brand new planner to make it happen, and a week later been so overwhelmed with real life that you've given up on your dream before you even started?!
We totally get it!- and We've got your back!
At Survivor School, we work with strong women who are chasing big things, but oftentimes everyday life get's in the way and their past trauma (Big T or Little t) shows up in different ways to derail progress. One of the most common ways is overthinking and analysis paralysis.
It can be so frustrating to know what you want, but feel like you are unworthy or not good enough to have it. This fuels the urge to try to make everything perfect and to plan every detail, which leads to overwhelm, and ultimately, we end up stuck, frozen and watching our dreams slip away, because we are too paralyzed to take action.
Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Malaika Simmons, TEDx speaker and CEO of Momentology Media, to discuss her unique approach to overcoming analysis paralysis and self-doubt.
Malaika has worked with countless women who feel stuck in a cycle of overthinking and self-sabotage. They want to move forward but find themselves paralyzed by the overwhelming number of choices and the fear of making the wrong decision. Malaika’s method, the Momentology Method™, takes a surprisingly simple approach to helping women break free from these barriers.
Breaking Free from Overwhelm
Analysis paralysis and overthinking are often rooted in self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Women, especially those who have experienced trauma, often find themselves questioning their abilities, second-guessing decisions, and worrying about making mistakes. This constant self-criticism leads to inaction and further stress, ultimately keeping them stuck.
Malaika’s solution challenges you to step back from the big picture that can feel so overwhelming. Instead of trying to figure out every little detail or worrying about the long-term outcome, she focuses on three key elements that can shift your perspective:
Who I Be – This is about cultivating awareness. Instead of focusing on everything you think you should be doing, take a moment to reflect on who you are right now. What are your strengths, your values, and the core of who you are? Awareness helps you see yourself from a place of confidence, not self-doubt.
What I See – Gratitude. What’s working for you in the present moment? By recognizing the positives, however small they seem, you can shift your focus away from what’s going wrong and start to appreciate what’s going right. Gratitude acts as a powerful tool for shifting your mindset, helping you break free from the cycle of overwhelm.
Don’t Mess With Me – Expectance. This step is about setting boundaries and getting clear on what you need in order to move forward. Expectancy involves believing that you are worthy of achieving your goals, and that what you want is possible. By adopting a mindset of expectation, you stop doubting yourself and start taking purposeful action.
The key to breaking free from analysis paralysis is shifting focus from the overwhelming big picture to the simple, actionable steps you can take right now. By anchoring yourself in the present moment, you can get unstuck and move toward your goals with clarity and confidence.
We invited Malaika Simmons to the Survivor School Masterclass Series where she’ll share her insights on living a Momentous Life™ where “The things you do matter, and the things that matter to you get done.”
