If traditional healing methods like therapy, journaling, or meditation haven’t worked for you, it’s not because you’re unfixable. The truth is, many of these approaches don’t account for how trauma uniquely affects the brain and body.
Trauma doesn’t just leave emotional scars; it rewires how we think, feel, and respond to the world. When we try to heal from trauma using methods that primarily rely on our conscious mind, we can feel stuck and misunderstood. But what if there’s another way—one that connects with your whole being, bypassing the limitations of conventional healing.
Why Traditional Methods Can Fall Short
Traditional healing methods often rely on cognitive processing—thinking through and verbalizing emotions. While this approach can work for some, deep trauma alters the brain, often shutting off our ability to process these experiences through our conscious minds. Our brains may struggle to process traumatic experiences through words alone. Talk therapy, journaling, or meditation, can sometimes feel like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole when dealing with trauma.
What works for one person may not work for another, and many survivors end up feeling misunderstood, frustrated, or defeated. If you've felt this way, it's not a sign that you're unhealable—it's a sign that the approach may not align with how your brain processes trauma.
That’s where creativity steps in. Creativity can offer a new, profound way to heal—by engaging parts of ourselves that may have been buried beneath the weight of trauma.
The Role of Creativity in Healing
Creativity offers something different. It taps into the right side of the brain—the intuitive, emotional, nonverbal part of us that is often blocked by trauma. Instead of trying to process emotions through words alone, creative practices allow us to express feelings through art, movement, and self-expression.
We asked an Expert
Survivor School is excited to introduce Tia Christiansen, an Energy Empowerment Coach and expert in using creative tools for healing. Tia is going to be hosting a very special masterclass where she will guide you through a transformative creative process, which allows you to tap into your creative power and unlock healing in a nonjudgmental, intuitive way.
I think people often think of creative hobbies as a distraction from the things we are struggling with; but when done correctly, creativity is a tool for deep healing and it works based on metaphor which is how our subconscious minds process difficult concepts.
In this masterclass, Tia will introduce you to Cosmic Smash Booking, a unique and trauma-informed creative process designed to help survivors bypass cognitive barriers and engage with their healing in a way that feels both empowering and liberating. Through this method, participants use art, colors, shapes, and symbols to express emotions that are often too difficult to verbalize. It’s a hands-on, nonverbal way to release trapped emotions, reconnect with your inner self, and begin the process of healing without judgment.
Reclaiming Your Inner Wisdom
Through Cosmic Smash Booking, you’ll also begin the process of rebuilding self-trust. Trauma can cause us to disconnect from our instincts and our own wisdom. By engaging in creative self-expression, you’ll have the opportunity to trust yourself again—your feelings, your thoughts, and your body. The act of creation, especially in a nonjudgmental environment, is a powerful way to rediscover your confidence and reclaim your voice.
Healing doesn’t need to follow a rigid formula. It can be fluid, dynamic, and as unique as you are. Creativity gives you permission to heal in your own way, at your own pace, without the pressure to follow someone else’s prescribed path.
